The Best day of Hunting Ever
I am eight feet long, and two hundred pounds. I am a carnivore, eating things as big as pigs and small deer. I am the biggest of lizards. I am the Komodo Dragon. I will tell you a tale of the greatest hunt of my life. And to the other less significant lizards listening, there is a surprise at the end of this story…
It all started last week. My sons and daughters were in a tree when I left them. I was determined to find a good meal. I first set off to the water. My good sense of smell guided me to carrion (already dead animals). Even though I am huge, I can get around easily on the islands on Indonesia on which I live. At times I can run at about eleven miles per hour for short periods of time. It took me only minutes to find a small dead deer in the middle of some brush. I ate it, but it did not fill me up, so I set off again. I kept walking until I came to the beach where my island ended. You may think I needed to turn around, but no. I, being a Komodo dragon, can swim (unlike some lizards). I decided to swim to my favorite islet off the coast of my island. I swam there rather quickly, hoping I would find food.
As soon as I arrived on the island, I found my second meal of the day. Three younger Komodo dragons were running on the ground searching for flies. I attacked them. They didn't know what was coming. I pounced on one of them, and instantly swallowed the other. Then I gulped down the third. Lucky for me they weren’t in trees, or I would have never gotten them. I quickly walked away when a Komodo, even larger than me, stopped me. He threatened to attack me, wondering if it was a good idea or not. I was scared. I had never seen a Komodo that long, or with more vicious teeth. I quickly turned around and started to go, when it stepped on my tail with his huge foot. I stopped, worried about my next move. Suddenly, the huge beast just walked away. I was relieved. My day was now almost complete when I saw a rather large wild pig in the distance. I decided to attack it. I raced over to it, and bit it’s legs. Then, well, you can’t imagine what happened next. Big Komodo was back, and looking hungrier than ever. He ripped apart the pig, and it fell over and took its last breath. I was amazed that he could kill a pig that quickly. He took the pig, and bit it in half, and even offered me a piece. I took it in astonishment that such a big mean lizard, could be so kind at heart. I thanked him and walked home. I learned not to judge a book by its cover. I had made a new friend today, and was very grateful.
Now for the surprise…
Well, you have been waiting… But so have I. That day was the last good meal I have had in days. Now I am hungry again, and look, you are all weak little helpless lizards. Ha Ha Ha.

YUM
Looks like I now have a sequel to my best hunting day ever!
